CEB Internship 2027 in France: Environmental and Social Sustainability – Climate Change

The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) Internship 2027 offers an opportunity for eligible students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in environmental sustainability, climate change assessment, and international development finance. The position is based in Paris, France, within the Bank’s Environmental and Social Sustainability (ESS) Unit.

Established in 1956, the CEB is a multilateral development bank that finances projects supporting social inclusion and improving living conditions across its member countries. Its work covers areas such as healthcare, education, affordable housing, and environmental protection.

The selected intern will contribute to environmental and social assessments of projects proposed for CEB financing, helping the Bank identify potential risks, strengthen safeguards, and assess climate-related impacts.

Internship Benefits

Selected candidates will receive the following benefits:

  • Monthly allowance: €1,800 to contribute towards accommodation, living expenses, and public transportation.
  • Six-month placement: Professional experience at an international development bank.
  • Climate policy experience: Exposure to climate-risk assessment, climate mitigation, and adaptation.
  • Environmental and social safeguards: Practical involvement in project due diligence and sustainability assessments.
  • International workplace: Collaboration with technical experts and colleagues in a multicultural environment.
  • Professional development: Opportunities to strengthen analytical, research, communication, and report-writing skills.

Important funding note: This is a paid internship, not a fully funded scholarship. The €1,800 monthly allowance helps cover living costs, but the Bank does not cover travel expenses or other additional costs.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will work with the Environmental and Social Sustainability Unit and support activities including:

  • Screening project proposals for environmental and social risks.
  • Reviewing questionnaires and information submitted by project borrowers.
  • Assessing relevant laws, regulations, and environmental and social safeguards.
  • Contributing to climate assessments and checking alignment with the Paris Agreement.
  • Identifying climate risks, mitigation measures, and adaptation opportunities.
  • Supporting technical assistance activities and the development of sustainability assessment tools.
  • Helping improve methodologies for monitoring environmental, social, and climate benefits.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen of one of the 43 Council of Europe Development Bank member countries.
  • Be currently enrolled in the final academic year of a higher education program or have graduated within the previous 24 months.
  • Ideally be studying at master’s level or an equivalent qualification.
  • Have an academic background in environmental sciences, social sciences, political science, community development, planning, applied economics, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, research, communication, and writing skills.
  • Have excellent written and spoken English or French. Knowledge of the other official language is desirable.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.

Previous professional experience is not compulsory, although relevant experience is an advantage. Knowledge of climate risks and resilience is also beneficial.
