Human Rights Affairs Officer Jobs at United Nation, South Korea

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the principal United Nations entity for the promotion and protection of human rights. OHCHR is mandated to work for the protection of all human rights for all people, without distinction of any kind, including race, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

Reporting Lines

The Human Rights Officer will report to the Chief of the Human Rights Unit in Seoul.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Human Rights Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Conducting human rights monitoring and reporting, including through the preparation of reports, studies and other materials;
  • Providing technical assistance to the Government of the Republic of Korea on human rights issues;
  • Raising awareness of human rights issues among the Government of the Republic of Korea, civil society and the general public;
  • Participating in the development and implementation of OHCHR’s human rights programmes in the Republic of Korea;
  • Representing OHCHR at inter-agency meetings and events on human rights issues.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in law, political science, international relations, human rights or a related field;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the field of human rights, including experience in human rights monitoring, reporting and technical assistance;
  • Strong research and writing skills;
  • Excellent command of English, both oral and written;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Willingness to travel.
