The WHO Department of Science, Information and Dissemination calls applications for Internship in Cairo, Egypt. The department envisions a Region where the Region’s health decisions, development and innovation are based on verifiable knowledge, evidence and reliable information.

The overall mission of the Department of Science, Information and Dissemination is to strengthen the capacity of Member States to generate and utilize reliable information, evidence, innovation and knowledge for the development of health systems and for improving population health outcomes.

Key Duties 

The intern will be

  • Reporting to Regional Adviser of the Evidence and Data to Policy, and the Director SID.
  • Contributing to the work of the department in areas of evidence-informed policymaking, including review of literature as well as an assessment of experiences and practices of the countries of the EMR.
  • Contributing to the development of evidence summaries of briefs in areas of need for the regional office or for specific countries of the region.
  • Also, contributing to the conduct of specific research studies that are conducted by the team subject to the timing and the plans.
  • Attending related meetings and events within the regional office or in Cairo; as well as other meetings of interest to the intern (in consultation with the supervisor).
  • Preparing and submitting an end of the internship report.
  • Furthermore, working at the WHO Regional Office, Cairo. S/he is not expected to travel out of this duty station during the assignment.

Learning Elements 

The general objectives of this WHO Internship in Egypt are to

  • Familiarize the intern about the constitution, vision, history, structure, and functions of the World Health Organization.
  • Provide a general understanding of the work of the Department of Science, Information and Dissemination.
  • Provide exposure and experience to a professional working environment of an international organization.
  • Introduce “evidence-informed and ethical decision making” as a cross-cutting theme.

Furthermore, by the end of the internship, the intern is expected to have developed a better sense of direction about his/her future professional interests and pursuits.

Academic Requirements 

Interns must have completed three years of full-time studies (bachelor’s level or equivalent) at a university or equivalent institution prior to commencing the assignment; be enrolled in a course of study at a university or equivalent institution leading to a formal qualification (applicants who have already graduated may also qualify for consideration provided that they apply for the internship within six months after completion of their formal qualification). The academic qualifications or courses of study should be in areas of medicine, public health, health economics, pharmacoeconomics, health policy, health management, epidemiology or similar.
