(UN) Programme Management Officer, Human Settlements Internship in Abidjan,West Africa
(UN) Programme Management Officer position is located at UNHABITAT in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Under the overall supervision of the UN-HABITAT’S Regional Representative for Africa and the direct supervision of the Senior Human Settlements Officer for West Africa and the Chief and Programme Management Officer of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
(UN) Programme Management Officer
- Coordinates and manages the Adaptation Fund project in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana; monitors and analyzes project implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
- Participates in the development of programmes/projects in the areas of climate change and urban resilience in West Africa, by mainstreaming urban/regional planning.
- Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with central and local government authorities of Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing action plans in terms of urban climate adaptation and mitigation.
- Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
- Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
- Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
- Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies related to climate change and urban resilience in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, inputs to publications, etc.
- Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
- Undertakes outreach activities in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
- Participates in or lead field missions in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana related with the implementation of the Adaptation Fund project, including provision of guidance to external consultants, partners, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
- Coordinates the Adaptation Fund project activities related to budget and funding (progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
- Performs other duties as required.

Candidate qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in urban/regional planning, international relations, political science, environmental sciences, climate change and resilience, business administration, management, economics or a related field is required.
- A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in project or programme management, administration, preferably in the areas of urban/regional planning, climate change and urban resilience is required.
- Working experience in the African context and with the public administration and/or the UN system or similar international organisations is desirable.
- Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post fluency in English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
NOTE: “fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ” Knowledge of” equals a rating of ” confident” in two of the four areas.
