UNDP Biodiversity Policy Analyst Internship in Kyrgyzstan

UNDP is seeking the support of a Biodiversity Policy Analyst Internship  to support the GBF EAS Project. It supports relevant national partners’ commitments to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), including early action on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework (GBF) and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan (NBSAPs).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation of the project components multiple languages;
  • Coordinate the preparation of policy assessment and policy implementation activities, generation of policy briefs and analytical reports;
  • Define, gather, organize, and analyze key project data;
  • Support communication with key national and local partners and stakeholders.  Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including financial institutions, donors, and private sector, to promote investment in biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management;
  • Support the development of project progress reports, donor reports, trainings, and presentations;
  • Track national progress to achieve project components;
  • Support the implementation of additional ongoing or emerging projects as assigned;
  • Develop reports and policy recommendations related to the targets in the emerging post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework;
  • Perform literature reviews, knowledge management, compilation of information, and gathering of data on topics pertinent to the project, such as, but not limited to biodiversity and ecosystem in national, local and international contexts, sustainable development, Indigenous people and local communities; social entrepreneurship; engagement in global policy processes;
  • Support in integrating the biodiversity considerations into BIOFIN’s programmatic actions;
  • Contribute to the preparation of capacity building engagements at UNDP-participating events, such as CBD Conferences of Parties, Open-Ended Working Groups; virtual events, interventions to raise awareness and build capacity among stakeholders on the importance of biodiversity finance and its role in achieving sustainable development goals, etc. Share content for NBSAP Forum, including events, publications, job offers and learning opportunities and share all recording of webinars and training sessions organized by UNDP and CBD on the NBSAP Forum;
  • Support the drafting of press releases, talking points, PowerPoint presentation, social media communications, blogs and video messages related to the capacity building materials, text and photos, photo essays for NBSAP Forum website, UNDP website and BIOFIN global site;
  • The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

 Institutional Arrangement

  • The Biodiversity Policy Analyst will be in charge of facilitating the GBF-EAS project’s smooth implementation and achieving the project objectives.

Required Skills and Experience for Biodiversity Policy Analyst Internship

  1. Education:
    • Master’s degree in environmental management/sciences, conservation biology/ecology/geography, natural resource management, management of development, sociology, public relations/international relations, or another related field is required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field in combination with 2 years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in the lieu of Master’s degree.
  2. Experience:
    • Up to 2 years (with Master’s degree) or minimum 2 years (with Bachelor´s degree) of professional experience in the area of biodiversity conservation or nature resources management.
  3. Languages:
      1. Fluency in English, Russian, and Kyrgyz languages is required.
  4. Required Skills:
    • Strong analytical and research skills in undertaking both desk and field research and developing analytical reports.
    • Experience in information management, such as through knowledge management platforms, literature reviews, and internal/external communications is required.
    • Experience in facilitation and/or stakeholder engagement is required
  5. Desired Skills:
    • Working experience in intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) or UN/UNDP is a strong asset.
    • Working experience with civil society, governmental authorities (national, regional, state, local) is desired.
    • Have experience in stakeholder engagement on biodiversity mainstreaming across agricultural, forestry, pasture, law enforcement, customs, and environmental sectors would be preferrable;
    • Professional experience in the public finance / development or environmental finance is an asset;
    • Professional experience working on issues in biodiversity projects in Kyrgyzstan would be highly desirable
