This UNDP Laboratory Technician position is located in the United Nations common premises and is part of the Clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities of Laboratory technician
- Attend the UN Clinic on part time basis a week and be on call in acute/emergency cases during the outside office hours to perform the requested laboratory test.
- Collect and label all samples of different tests following international bio-safety standard
- Ensure the safe handling and transporting of bio-hazard materials in compliance with international standards and practices
- Ensure the appropriate disposal of hazardous materials following international standards of bio safety.
- Report timely the requested tests to UN Doctor and ensure that the reports are managed promptly and in confidential manner.
- Regular maintenance of all laboratory equipment’s following the technical specifications of the manufacturer of the equipment
- Proper report of problems related to laboratory performance for the fast and efficient resolution
- Participate on gatherings organized by the clinic for Health and Safety awareness and promotion programs.
- Ensure proper management of reagent stock; keep inventory of Laboratory supplies and ensure that the supplies are always replenished and adequate
- Keep records of all work done in the Laboratory activities.
- Responsible for the regular maintenance of all laboratory equipment’s following the technical specifications of the manufacturer of the equipment.
- The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for
- the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:Eritrea
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician.
Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Laboratory technology is required.
Required skills
- Experience in the use of computers, office software packages
- (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and web-based management systems, and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.
- Experience in Personal Protection Equipment application during any procedure performance is required.
Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section.
- Previous working, in health facility with well organized laboratory is desired.
- Proven experience and good knowledge of the microscopic examination is advantageous.
- Experience of the using all laboratory machines.
- Working experience within UN agency is an asset.
Required Language(s)
- Fluency in English is required.
