UNDP Paid Internship Project Manager 2024 at Tajikistan

The Project Manager Internship has the overall responsibility for day-to-day management of the above-mentioned projects and ensure coordination and collaboration with other economic development and livelihood promotion and climate change projects implemented in Sughd area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management & Supervision:
    • Facilitate the day-to-day functioning of the project teams and consultants hired by the project.
    • Manage the human and financial resources for achieving project results in line with the outputs and activities outlined in the project documents and annual work plans.
    • Establish performance management system, based on UNDP’s results and competency assessment system, to monitor project personnel performance.
    • Be responsible for financial project management through Quantum, in line with delegated authorities and internal control framework.
    • Develop the annual and quarterly work plans for the projects.
  • Partnership and Resource Mobilization:
    • Work collaboratively in a team environment with other projects of UNDP SED cluster and Climate Change, DRR and environment cluster to ensure integration, strategic focus and gender-responsiveness of all programme activities.
    • Keep close collaboration and regular communication with the relevant staff of UNDP Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to ensure coordinated approach for the regionally-focused activities.
    • Ensure that project activities are closely coordinated with stakeholders and that a high level of collaboration and cooperation is in place at the regional and district level.
  • Monitoring and evaluation:
    • Manage the implementation of effective monitoring and evaluation, information and reporting systems as well as communication strategy for the assigned projects.
    • Monitor national context, emergence of players/stakeholders and actualization of risks that have implications for the projects.
    • Undertake missions to project locations on a quarterly basis.
    • Ensure project evaluations are undertaken properly and in line with UNDP standards.
  • Knowledge sharing and communication: 
    • Lead the process of knowledge captures of national and international know-how in the subject area and production of knowledge-based products.
    • Promote the substantive quality of all knowledge products, and donor reports.
    • Supports relevant, high-impact advocacy activities and campaigns with key partners.

Required Skills and Experience of Project Manager Internship

Education:
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, development studies, environment science, environment studies, climate change, sustainability studies, social sciences, business administration or other related subjects.
  • Bachelor’s degree with additional 2 years of experience maybe taken into consideration in lieu of Master’s degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years (with Master’s degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience in project / program management at national or international level, or experience in other related fields.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent computer skills, including full command of text and spreadsheet programmes, data bases and web-based communication tools.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with management of economic and social development projects is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in managing climate change related projects will be an advantage.
  • Experience/Good knowledge about the strategic planning and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Evidence of gender-responsiveness and gender sensitivity in the area of expertise.
  • Understanding/experience of national and local development context of Tajikistan in general and Khujand in particular.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of narrative and financial reports.
  • Sound knowledge/experience of country and regional context and development challenges.
  • Experience in partnering and interaction with governmental and international organizations at various levels.
  • Affinity with the mandate and role of the United Nations.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Tajik, Russian and English (written and spoken) languages is mandatory.

Institutional Arrangement of Project Manager Internship

The Project Manager will perform his/her duties under direct supervision of the Team Leader of the Climate Change, DRR and Environment cluster. He/she will lead the teams of both projects and supervise the staff under the two projects, including the Administration and Finance Associate, and project associates.
