Since this first edition, GöMUN-conferences steadily grew. In 2010 they were for the first time able to simulate three committees and they moved the conference venue on the campus. In 2011, they hold a conference with the common motto for all committees: “It’s a Man’s World? – Challenges women facing in the 21st century”. Ever since then every single conference has operated under a different conference topic. Moreover, the conference in 2011 marked the first time that they simulated a non-UN body. For their 10th anniversary edition in 2018, they chose “Apocalypse now? – How to outlive their past” as their theme. Further, The topic acknowledges the current struggle of the international society to deal with the consequences of past decisions.
With this year’s theme, they want to draw the attention away from old schemes and encrusted policy decisions towards new, outward-looking and sustainable solution finding for the issues of today and tomorrow. However, the notion of a modern globalized world that is essential to their generation and the way they think about the global strive for solutions is being surrounded by an environment of increasing uncertainty and instability. Moreover, With right-wing parties on the rise throughout the world, escalating tensions of old conflicts, the challenge of climate change and growing mistrust towards globalizing and international structures, they are faced with problems that could disrupt their vision of a peaceful and cooperative future.
Moreover, These are just some of the questions they want to provoke during the conference. Further, They are confident that they can find answers and maybe even more importantly: that they can find platforms for exchange and debate which lie steadily and calm in the waters of international relations. The Model United Nations Society Göttingen e.V. Since then, society has constantly evolved and was proud to organize its first GöMUN-conference in 2009.
