Details

Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations. By multilateral approaches, the participants debate and tackle various global issues from the perspective of a delegate representing a country of the UN.

The advantage of MUN is that it educates participants about the UN, multilateral diplomacy and current affairs of political, economic, social, environmental, military or jurisdictional nature. Members are enabled to research a country and develop solutions to global problems. As MUN sessions are always conducted in English, students with a mother tongue other than English can improve their English speaking skills. During an MUN session, participants furthermore employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, negotiating and conflict resolution.

The members of MUN do not only get an insight into world politics, but acquire the soft skills necessary for a successful future.

Zurich Model United Nations 2019 (ZuMUN) is separated into committees for high school students and committees for university students. Depending on which category delegates belong to and whether they are a single delegate or a delegation’s head delegate, the registration procedure is slightly different.

Final committee assignments will be communicated after the closing of registration. Early-bird registrations will, however, receive priority during the committee assignment process. Head Delegates and Faculty Advisors will receive a list of assigned committees and the corresponding countries for their delegations. The distribution of those to individual delegates will be up to Head Delegates and Faculty Advisors.

The payment can be done online with credit card directly during the registration process. For delegations, they also offer the possibility to pay per bank transfer. Due to technical reasons applicants will have to choose between a signup form for credit card payments and bank transfer.

High School Committees

High school participants are required to be part of a delegation that is accompanied by a faculty advisor(teacher or other supervisor). This faculty advisor is responsible for the students’ online registration, paying the delegate fees (and possibly social fees), presenting themselves at the registration office on the first day to confirm the arrival of their delegation, as well as for the well-being of their delegation members for the duration of the conference. ZuMUN does not take on any responsibility for supervising minors. The faculty advisor will also be their contact person if there are any questions concerning delegates under their supervision. The supervisor of the delegation can register here and pay with credit card
