About ASEF

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) promotes understanding, strengthens relationships and facilitates cooperation among the people, institutions, and organizations of Asia and Europe. ASEF enhances dialogue, enables exchanges and encourages collaboration across the thematic areas of culture, education, governance, economy, sustainable development, public health, and media.

About Mobility First

The Asia-Foundation presents the Mobility First travel grant for artists and cultural professionals. The organizer invites eligible arts practitioners from Asia and Europe to apply for periodic competitive open calls through an individual application. International travel support is then granted to selected cultural professionals in Asia and Europe to participate in activities that are integral to their professional development; that would initiate a multiplier effect on others and benefit society.

Eligibilities 

  • Candidates must be nationals/citizens of any Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) partner country.
  • Should have working in any artistic genre (such as visual arts, performing arts, film, heritage, etc.).
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of travel and be seeking support for travel within the ASEM region.
  • Furthermore, the applicant must not be recipients of the Mobility First! grant in 2019.

What does the grant cover?

The Mobility First grant covers the cost of international travel including visa cost. The grant amount can vary according to each application, based on the mobility route and destination country which you are intending to visit.

ASEF supports the mobility of artists and cultural professionals for participation in the following 6 types of activities

  • Conferences or forums
  • Festivals, biennales, or international exhibitions
  • Artists’ or writers’ residencies
  • Partner meetings to set up or maintain an existing partnership
