The Danish Refugee Council Diaspora Project Support is hosting the Student Civil Society Engagement Program in Copenhagen, Denmark. The individual will join a team of 9000 colleagues worldwide. All of them are working hard to ensure the rights of displaced people. The team of Civil Society Engagement Unit – supports and strengthens DRC’s engagement with and support to civil society in its international operations. Your main task will be to support the Diaspora Project Support (DiPS) team. DiPS offers provisions of funding for diaspora-led relief; rehabilitation and development projects as well as training to strengthen the diaspora organizations’ capacity.

Role 

The participant at the Student Civil Society Engagement Program at the Danish Refugee Council provides administrative support to the implementation of the DiPS project. Specifically, this includes organizing and supporting trainers in carrying out capacity development events for Danish diaspora organizations as well as providing administrative and coordination support to the DiPS Annual Grand Meetings.

In particular, s/he will be performing the following duties

  • Prepare, post and disseminate notices for events.
  • Liaise with conference and training facility service providers.
  • Follow up on events in relation to administrative issues, including regarding registrations and evaluations.
  • Play a lead role on administrative issues in relation to the Annual Grand Meeting, including regarding the election of Advisory Board members, mobilizing Danish diaspora members, liaising with the venue providers, registration and administrative follow-up

In addition to that, the position will also support communication activities to a Danish diaspora network.

  • Plan, draft, and distribute information about DiPS and other related issues via the DRC website, email campaigns, Facebook and Whatsapp/SMS services.
  • Manage and further develop the Unit/DiPS contact lists (via Mailchimp).
  • Manage and maintain a communications calendar to ensure a continuous flow of information to diaspora and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in drafting and designing DiPS outreach material.

Requirements 

Candidates must have the following qualifications in order to apply for

  • Experience in organizing training events and conferences (1-2 years). Similarly, experience with communication with civil society representatives
  • Fluency in English as well as knowledge of Danish (read and write).
  • Furthermore, at least two years of higher education in a relevant field.

The Danish Refugee Council is one of the central humanitarian actors in Syria and the neighboring countries. More than 500,000 persons receive emergency relief from DRC each month in the region. Moreover, the situation in and around Syria is the largest humanitarian crisis the world is facing and 30% of the population have left their homes as a consequence of the violence. In Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq, DRC distributes relief aid in the form of mattresses, clothes, blankets and hygiene kits, gives educational assistance in terms of remedial classes and classes for the dropped out students, and rehabilitates shelters. Inside Syria, DRC also helps displaced and conflict-affected Syrians in Homs, Daraa, Hama, Aleppo, and Damascus.
