Call for Applications for 2021-2022 IFLS Fellowship. Osgoode’s IFLS is accepting fellowship applications for the 2021-22 academic year.

About Institute for Feminist Legal Studies

The Institute for Feminist Legal Studies was established at Osgoode in the early 1990s to foster scholarship in feminism and law at Osgoode.

We focus on a range of teaching and research activities, including

  • Visitorships which enhance the work of Osgoode faculty and graduate students.
  • Special events and lectures concerned with feminism and law.
  • Events and Lectures co sponsored with other Osgoode organizations, like Osgoode’s Hennick Centre for Business and Law, IPOsgoode, and Osgoode’s Nathanson Centre on Transnational Human Rights, Crime and Security.
  • Support for JD students involved in Women’s Caucus;
  • Efforts to create a supportive environment for graduate students, including connections with graduate scholarships for feminist and gender research, and opportunities to present work-in-progress;
  • Fostering links to: the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law / Revue Femmes et Droit; the GenderJustice Collaborative Research Group; and other feminist and gender research centres in Canada and internationally.

The work of the Institute is supported by an endowment fund at Osgoode.

The Institute for Feminist Legal Studies is governed by the Members of IFLS, a group that is constituted annually at the beginning of each academic year.  Members include Faculty and Graduate Student Members at Osgoode Hall Law School.  The Members of the IFLS participate in an Annual Meeting in March/April in each year to receive a report from the Director and to discuss plans for the next academic year.  In addition, Members are encouraged at any time to provide comments, suggestions and ideas with respect to activities and visions for the IFLS.

Summary

This fellowship supports the work of young and mid-career scholars from around the world by providing an intellectual community, physical space (to the extent our work will be physical during the upcoming academic year), the academic audience for research presentations, access to York libraries, and under certain circumstances modest financial support for very specific research projects conducted during the fellowship stint.

Such financial support requires a separate application during the fellowship. Fellowship time is flexible and can vary from a month to a full academic year. Fellows are expected to finish or make significant progress on an existing research project toward publication during their time at Osgoode.

Eligibility

  • IFLS Fellowship is open to young and mid-career scholars from around the world.
  • In addition to scholars of law and feminism, the fellowship is open to scholars from other disciplines working on feminism broadly speaking.
