The Branco Weiss Fellowship – Society in Science invites candidates to apply for fully-funded fellowships 2020 in Switzerland. Moreover, the Branco Weiss Fellowship – Society in Science provides a platform for exceptionally qualified researchers who demonstrate a willingness to engage in a dialogue on relevant social, cultural, political or economic issues across the frontiers of their particular discipline.

Eligibility

This position is open for the candidates who have an unusual research project that departs from the mainstream,. In addition to that, the candidate must have a remarkable track record will be short-listed and could emerge from the annual selection process with an award for the prestigious grant.

The candidate must have the following specifications to be eligible for the fully-funded Branco Weiss Fellowships 2020 in Switzerland.

  • Ph.D. by January 15, 2020
  • Must have a Ph.D. a maximum of five years prior to January 15, 2020.
  • Do not hold or have held a faculty-equivalent position previously (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer).
  • Candidates must have their project departs from the mainstream of research in your discipline. Similarly, candidates must o have a record of outstanding scientific achievement.
  • Candidate must demonstrate in the proposal a willingness to engage in a dialogue on relevant social, cultural, political or economic issues across the frontiers of your particular discipline.

A Branco Weiss Fellowship covers all the legitimate costs of research (i.e. salary and/or equipment, travel expenses, consumables, personnel, etc.

The registration portal for the 2020 fellowship intake is now open and will close on January 15, 2020, at 11.59 p.m. (CET). However, please submit your application at least 1 to 2 days before the deadline to avoid server overload.

Application materials 

Your application must include the following attachments

  • Letter of motivation including a statement explaining why your research differs from the mainstream (max. 1 page) as well as a proposed research project (max. 4 pages, excluding references).
  • Similarly, copies of your three best publications (no doctoral theses, no books, only individual book chapters).
  • A recent CV (max. 4 pages, including abstract, references extra).
  • Furthermore, application overview (template available for download from October 2019), including reasoning of why you believe that you are a perfect candidate for a Branco Weiss Fellowship (max. 1000 characters).

Timelines

  • January 15, 2020, 11.59 p.m. CET: final deadline for applications via the online form.
  • May 2020: notification and invitation for a personal interview sent to the final selection of candidates; notification sent to candidates whose application has been rejected.
  • June 2020: candidates interviewed by a panel in Zurich, Switzerland; final selection of fellows
  • September 1 to December 31, 2020: fellows commence research projects.
