Fully Funded Government of Ireland Fellowship Programme is the postdoctoral fellowship program. This programme aims to support suitably qualified applicants in any discipline to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at an eligible higher education institution in Ireland. Fellows will hold a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship. These fellowships can be held for either one or two years.

The Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is highly competitive, with an average success rate of 15 percent over the last five years. The programme is globally recognized and attracts many applications from international researchers who wish to undertake excellent research in the Irish higher education and research system. The programme has enjoyed excellent gender balance across its STEM and AHSS streams. Successful applicants who become fellows under the programme are recognized as demonstrating world-class potential as future research leaders.

Supporting the development of individual researchers across the spectrum of disciplines and fields is essential to a high-performing education and research system. The Council is doing this by:

  • developing the academic talent needed for Irish higher education institutions to compete at the highest level;
  • retaining our brightest minds and attracting exceptional early-career researchers to Ireland;
  • future-proofing Ireland’s international reputation and laying the foundation for future success in European research funding;
  • and inspiring future research activity at the frontiers of knowledge.

Benefits

  • a salary of €31,275 per annum
  • employer’s PRSI contribution of €3,395 per annum (10.85% of salary)
  • employer’s pension contribution, where applicable, of €6,255 per annum (20% of salary)
  • eligible direct research expenses of €5,000 per annum

Eligibility

An applicant must have either graduated or have been certified as having fulfilled all the requirements for the award of a doctoral degree, including the submission of the hardbound corrected thesis, within the five year period between 31 May 2014 and 31 May 2019.
