Fully Funded Government of Ireland Fellowship Programme is the postdoctoral fellowship program. This programme aims to support suitably qualified applicants in any discipline to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at an eligible higher education institution in Ireland. Fellows will hold a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship. These fellowships can be held for either one or two years.

The Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is highly competitive, with an average success rate of 15 percent over the last five years. The programme is globally recognized and attracts many applications from international researchers who wish to undertake excellent research in the Irish higher education and research system. The programme has enjoyed excellent gender balance across its STEM and AHSS streams. Successful applicants who become fellows under the programme are recognized as demonstrating world-class potential as future research leaders.

  • developing the academic talent needed for Irish higher education institutions to compete at the highest level;
  • retaining our brightest minds and attracting exceptional early-career researchers to Ireland;
  • future-proofing Ireland’s international reputation and laying the foundation for future success in European research funding;
