For the 2019-20 Academic Year, the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca offers two PhD Programs: Cognitive and Cultural Systems and Systems Science. The Cognitive and Cultural Systems PhD Program comprises two Tracks that both examine the methodologies applicable to the study of the brain, the mind, behaviors, human activities, and productions as well as their material and symbolic functions and representations. Moreover, the qualified candidates receive fully funded IMT Lucca PhD Scholarship which covers their tuition fee as well as provides them with accommodation and living allowance.

All students receiving Fully Funded IMT Lucca PhD Scholarship will be based in the recently restored San Francesco complex, a fully integrated Campus in the historical center of the beautiful Tuscan city of Lucca. Further, the Campus includes renewed, fully-equipped residential facilities, an on-site canteen, study and living rooms, a state-of-the-art library and outdoor recreational spaces, which foster a unique cultural, professional and social environment for the doctoral programs. Also, all admitted students will also receive a research scholarship. Additional funding for research stages also will be provided.

BENEFITS:

Scholarship gross amount: 15,343.28 Euros/year (see the paragraph entitled “Scholarships”).

All PhD students admitted to the PhD program are exempt from paying tuition fees, although they are still responsible for paying the yearly Regional Education Tax (currently €140.00/year).

Further, the scholarship covers PhD students free meals (lunch and dinner) at the on-campus canteen.

All scholarship recipients are provided with free accommodation in shared double rooms within the campus residential facilities.

REQUIREMENTS

Applications are open to candidates who meet the following requirements:

• “Laurea Magistrale” or “Specialistica” (according to DM n° 509, of November 3, 1999), or a four- or five-year degree (according to the previous rules of the Italian higher education system) obtained in Italy
• Foreign degrees with a minimum duration equivalent to 4 years (full time). However, the 4-year duration is a minimum requirement but not a sufficient requirement. Further, the selection committees will assess the eligibility of degrees.
• Also, applicants who obtain their degree by no later than October 31st, 2019 can also apply. These candidates will be admitted to the selection procedure “with reserve” and must provide their degree certificate by the date of enrollment or they will be excluded from the program.
• Knowledge of English language: Applicants must indicate their level of English.

HOW TO APPLY

You may submit applications for admission to the Doctoral Programs. Candidates must complete the online application form  (registration is required), provide personal data and attach the required documents. The basic instructions for the application procedure are available after registration. You cannot submit the applications after the indicated deadline.

Candidates must select the curriculum for which they wish to apply. Candidates can also apply for more curricula. In this case, without modifying the basic personal information,  you may change the “Education” section according to each curriculum.

A high number of information and documents to be processed near the closing of the invitation to apply. Hence, candidates may send the application well in advance of the deadline. This avoids last-minute congestion in the procedure of question!
