The University of Auckland will be awarding fully funded Doctoral Scholarships to high-achieving domestic as well as international doctoral candidates applying for admission to an approved doctoral programme at the University for 2019. Being a research-led, international university, the international community recognizes the University of Auckland for its excellence in teaching, learning, creative work, and administration. Moreover, the University has made a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge. Further, the university commits to serving its local, national and international communities.
Successful candidates for the Doctoral program will receive a stipend of $27,900 p.a (plus domestic fees). Further, the stipend is increasing for 2019. Also, there is a possibility of a six-month extension of the Doctoral Stipend. Moreover, the university will facilitate adjustment on the annual cost-of-living to the doctoral stipend.
New Zealand citizen or permanent resident will require a GPA of 8.0 or above to qualify for the scholarship. Further, Māori or domestic Pacific student will require a GPA of 7.5 or above to qualify for the scholarship. While domestic and international candidates will require a GPA (or equivalent) of 7.0 or above to qualify for the scholarship
The University does not assess eligibility for a University of Auckland postgraduate scholarship prior to application. So applicants must submit an application for admission so that the University considers him/her for a scholarship. The University will advise applicants of his/her eligibility once it receives their final grades. Also, you will require to have a firm offer of a place for your chosen programme.
If you need to find out your grade point average (GPA) and you are a current student at the University of Auckland, your transcript will show the grades from your current programme of study, which the students can access from Student Services Online at any time.
When a domestic of an international applicant applies for a place at the University you will have the opportunity to confirm whether or not you also wish the University of Auckland should consider you for the fully funded Doctoral Scholarships. However, you don’t need to apply separately for the Doctoral Scholarship.
There are no scholarship “rounds” or application forms. This means you may apply for a place on a doctoral programme when you are ready, safe in the knowledge that you will also be assessed for the scholarship when your grades are confirmed.
The University will offer the scholarship alongside the offer of places in doctoral programmes.
