Applications are open for the Shanghai Government Scholarship 2019. Shanghai Government is offering a full scholarship as well as partial scholarship. The scholarship is for Bachelor, Masters and Ph.D level. The scholarship is for Excellent foreign students applying for undergraduate, masters and doctoral education at East China Normal University.

Scholarship Details

  • Class A Scholarship (Full Scholarship)

Tuition and accommodation fees are exempted, and comprehensive insurance for international students in China is provided. The monthly living allowance for scholarships is 2,500 yuan for undergraduates, 3,000 yuan for graduate students, and 3,500 yuan for doctoral students.

  • Class B Scholarship (partial scholarship)

Free tuition fees, comprehensive insurance for international students in China

Application materials for Undergraduate

  1. “Shanghai Government Scholarship Application Form”, please automatically generate an application form and print it after submitting the application online;
  2. A notarized certificate of highest academic qualifications.
  • If the applicant is a current graduate, he/she must submit the proof of attendance and the pre-graduation certificate issued by the school where he/she is enrolled (subject to the certificate). Non-Chinese and English versions are required to be accompanied by a notarized translation in Chinese or English;
  1. The highest academic transcript. Non-Chinese and English versions must be accompanied by a notarized translation in Chinese or English;
  2. Study and study plan in China (not less than 800 words), written in Chinese or English;
  3. HSK certificate within the validity period
  • Applicants who apply for Chinese undergraduate programs can apply for one-year Chinese tutoring if they have reached HSK level 3 but have not yet reached the Chinese level required for professional entry.
  1. Application materials for professional requirements:
  • Design Institute applicants are required to provide short videos of self-introduction short video and painting/design process.
  • Applicants of the Fine Arts Department of the School of Art must provide original works of recent works
  • Applicants for the Faculty of Education and Music Department are required to conduct relevant professional interviews.
  1. A copy of the Foreign Physical Examination Record and the blood test report, please bring it with you when you come to China.
  2. Copy of passport (including visa page to China)
  3. High school award certificates (not required)
  4. Applicants under the age of 18 are required to provide a guardianship certificate in China.
  5. Application fee: 800RMB (paid when registering online)

Application Materials – Master

  1. “Shanghai Government Scholarship Application Form”, please automatically generate an application form and print it after submitting the application online;
  2. Bachelor’s degree or above.
  • If the applicant is a current graduate, he/she must submit the proof of attendance and the pre-graduation certificate issued by the school where he/she is enrolled (subject to the certificate). Non-Chinese and English versions are required to be accompanied by a notarized translation in Chinese or English;
  1. Undergraduate and above academic transcripts. Non-Chinese and English versions must be accompanied by a notarized translation in Chinese or English;
  2. Study and study plan in China (not less than 800 words), written in Chinese or English;
  3. Language certificate
  • Chinese instruction: HSK level 5 210 points or more.
  • Teaching in English: TOEFL ≥ 80, IELTS ≥ 6 or other proof of English proficiency

*If you take the TOEFL test, you can choose to send the results directly to East China Normal University. The code of East China Normal University is C304.

  1. Letter of recommendation from two professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English
  2. Students applying to study art majors must provide their own works;
  3. A copy of the Foreign Physical Examination Record and the blood test report, please bring it with you when you come to China.
  4. Copy of passport (including visa page to China)
  5. Undergraduate thesis abstract section
  6. Application fee: 800RMB (paid when registering online)

Application materials – PhD

  1. “Shanghai Government Scholarship Application Form”, please automatically generate an application form and print it after submitting the application online;
  2. Undergraduate diploma, degree certificate
  • Master’s degree certificate, a copy of the degree certificate or the expected graduation certificate of the school where I am attending
  • (After obtaining the diploma, you need to submit the graduation certificate and degree certificate)
  • If the diploma is not in both Chinese and English, please submit a notarized copy in Chinese or English.
  1. Undergraduate transcripts, master transcripts
  • Transcripts need to be stamped
  • If the transcript language is not in English or Chinese, please submit a notarized copy in Chinese or English.
  1. language certificate
  • Teaching in Chinese: HSK Level 5 is over 180 points.
  • Teaching in English: TOEFL ≥ 80, IELTS ≥ 6 or other proof of English proficiency
  1. Study and research plan in China (no less than 800 words, Chinese and English)
  2. A letter of recommendation from two professors or associate professors (please use the template). The date of issuance of the letter of recommendation needs to be after September 2018.
  3. a copy of the passport
  4. Published papers and scientific research results during the master’s degree; abstract pages of master’s thesis (the master’s thesis does not need to provide the full text, just provide the abstract page)
  5. medical report
  6. Application fee: 800 yuan
  7. Certificate of award

The above materials and application fees are non-refundable regardless of whether the applicant is accepted.
