Four NIHR Studentships are available to study the MSc Medical Statistics in the 2019-20 academic year. These studentships are by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). Also, have been made available with the aim of building research capacity in medical statistics. Further, they will be targeted towards students who are planning to go on to work in areas of benefit to the National Health Service.

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is renowned for its research. Also,  postgraduate studies and continuing education in public and global health. Moreover, The School has an international presence and collaborative methods.  They have 3,000 staff and more than 4,000 students in over 100 countries, all working with a collective purpose to improve health worldwide.

Further, Their mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice. Founded in 1899 at the London Docks, LSHTM is now based in Bloomsbury, where it has two main sites at Keppel Street and Tavistock Place. Today, our staff, students and alumni work in government, academia, international agencies and health services across the world.

The school has 3,000 staff working in over 100 countries. Further, including at two MRC Units in The Gambia and Uganda which joined LSHTM in February 2018.  The School has more than 20,000 alumni in over 180 countries working in government, academia, international agencies and health services.


  • Each studentship provides tuition fees at the Home/EU fee rate
  • A stipend (a tax-free living allowance).


  • The award recipient must understand that the giving of any false information or withholding of relevant
  • information may lead to the termination of any allowance granted and the institution of proceedings for the recovery of any amounts paid by the School.
  • Award recipients agree to write a 250-word student profile for use in School publications and on the website.
  • They also give consent to the School (and its studentship partner/s for this award only) to announce their name and funding award and to use photographic images of the award recipient/s in their publications and on the website.
