Funded Scholarship at the University of Massachusetts Boston, USA is in the field of Courses offered by the university. Scholarships for continuing students range from $250 to as much as $5,000. Students may qualify for more than one. All continuing student scholarship opportunities are competitive and only a limited number of students are chosen for each opportunity. The scholarships are as mentioned below

  1. The Entrepreneur Scholarship

This scholarship is meant to encourage students who are passionate about building their career in the startup ecosystem of Massachusetts. The program is open to Juniors and beyond from any major who have a desire to work for a venture capital-backed startup, and potentially start their own company someday.
In addition to a scholarship, the program includes a mentorship opportunity with Dan Phillips. Dan has been an executive in five venture-capital-backed startups and is an advisor in the UMass Boston Venture Development Center. Dan will meet with the winner(s) on a regular basis to offer mentorship and assist the student in acquiring the skills necessary to launch their careers. Additionally, if mutually agreeable, Dan will assist the student in finding a suitable internship through his many industry connections.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be passionate about an entrepreneurial career
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Be a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate degree program
  • Be currently working and utilizing loans or other financial aid towards your cost of attendance
  • There is a preference for students who are the first in their family to attend college

2. The Non-Resident Scholarship

This scholarship opportunity is open to students who are not Massachusetts Residents. Students who are being charged out-of-state tuition who are U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents and International Students are eligible to apply. Multiple awards of up to $4,000 will be offered.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student
  • Must have completed a minimum of 24 credits at UMass Boston
  • Massachusetts residents are not eligible for this award
  • Must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA

To be considered for this opportunity submit your application by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September, 28th. Late applications will not be considered.

3. The Peter and Jackie Berlandi Scholarship

This endowment establishes a scholarship for an undergraduate student who meets the eligibility criteria below.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student
  • Must be a graduate of a Boston public or private high school
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Must have a FAFSA on file with UMass Boston for the current academic year and federally determined financial need
  • Preference may be given for students in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences

To be considered for this opportunity please submit your application by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th. Late applications will not be considered.

4. The Robert and Jean O’Hara Sheridan Scholarship

This endowment establishes a scholarship for an undergraduate student who meets the eligibility criteria below.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student
  • Must have a FAFSA on file with UMass Boston for the current academic year and federally determined financial need
  • Must be a resident of the City of Boston or Everett, Massachusetts
  • Preference may be given to students who participate in co-curricular activities

5. The Gina M. Cappello Scholarship

The Gina M. Cappello Scholarship Fund memorializes Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Gina Cappello, and her constant advocacy for UMass Boston students. The scholarship is intended to support students with outstanding financial need, with preference given to those who face such challenges as homelessness, foster care transition, and food insecurity. Recipients must be a resident of Massachusetts, with the preference for residents of Boston or Somerville. This award is worth $1,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student
  • Must currently live in or have been raised in Boston or Somerville, Massachusetts
  • Preference for students who are currently experiencing non-academic hardships such as homelessness, food insecurity, or domestic challenges

The Comprehensive Scholarship

The Comprehensive Scholarship is our largest scholarship opportunity for the academic year. We award multiple scholarship awards ranging from $500 to $5,000 through this application process. All awards are one-time for the current academic year and not renewable. The selection process is very competitive for this and all awards. Please make sure to review your essay before submitting your application.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student
  • Must have completed a minimum of 24 credits at UMass Boston
  • Must have a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be a Massachusetts resident paying in-state tuition
