Goethe-Zentrum Kampala Research Lab Program 2025 for Emerging Artists in Uganda

Applications are open for the Goethe-Zentrum Kampala Research Lab Program 2025 for Emerging Artists in Uganda. The Research Lab (TRL, 2025) is a 4-month, non-residential program centered on experimentation, research, and artistic development, which will lead into a month of studio work and a final exhibition.

TRL 2025 will admit 8 participants who will collaborate with two lead curators and guest facilitators to foster the exchange of knowledge through:

  • Workshops & lectures
  • Studio visits & gallery visits
  • Group discussions & excursions

TRL aims to bridge the gap between research and artistic practice, exploring how both formal and informal study to refine an artist’s work, transforming raw talent into skilled, sustainable practice. It emphasizes the importance of engaging with art history and theory to inform and deepen creative expression.

Eligibility for Kampala Research

  • Open to artists aged 18 to 35 years based in Uganda.
  • Eligible Media: Painting, Sculpture, Video, Mixed Media, Digital Art

Application requirements include:

  • CV or Artist Bio: A current document highlighting your artistic journey.
  • Portfolio: 5 high-quality still images of your work.

  • Research Proposal: A two-paragraph proposal outlining:
    • Your research focus within your field of specialization.
    • Your intended creative process and expected outcomes.
