The Institute of Engineering and technology has announced the IET Postgraduate Scholarship for enthusiastic engineers all over the world. The IET accredits programmes across a diverse spectrum, including electrical, electronic, manufacturing, mechanical, systems and software engineering and specialist areas such as bioengineering, nanotechnology and renewable energy. Moreover, you will have to have a passion for engineering and be keen to help promote engineering to others.
However, the IET Postgraduate Scholarship depends on many criteria, for instance, academic performance, merit, creativity and many more. IET recognizes these outstanding individuals and offers them financial aids for further advancement in the field. Moreover, there are a number of scholarships available for engineers pursuing PhD or EngD researchers in their first or second year of research:
Leslie H Paddle Scholarship: £5,000
To encourage excellence in engineering and technology research, with a preference for electrical, electronic or manufacturing engineering.
Hudswell International Research Scholarship: £5,000
To encourage excellence in engineering and technology research, with a preference for electrical, electronic or manufacturing engineering.
For PhD or EngD researchers in their third or fourth year of research:
IET Postgraduate Prize: Up to two awards of £2,500
To assist with research work leading to the award of a Doctorate, with a preference towards electrical, electronic or manufacturing engineering.
IET Postgraduate Scholarship for an Outstanding Researcher: £10,000
The prize aims to help researchers to share advancing knowledge throughout the global science, engineering and technology community to enhance people’s lives around the world.
Criteria for all postgraduate awards
- Postgraduate awards are for members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and are open to the following categories of IET membership: Student, TMIET, MIET, and FIET. Associate and lapsed members are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must have been a member of the IET for at least one year by the closing date for applications
- Applicants do not need to be professionally registered engineers. However, applicants are expected to satisfy the educational requirements for Registration as either a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.
- Applicants need to have started their PhD or EngD research programme (MSc courses and MRes degrees are not eligible) by the closing date for applications and achieved at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) in their first degree.
- The scholarship may be held in addition to a Student Loan, research grant, company bursaries or similar. However, candidates may not be in receipt of any other IET Scholarship or Grant.
- Also, On the application form, you will need to include details of your referee.
- Moreover, Awarded on a competitive basis, applications are assessed by the Postgraduate Awards Panel.
- Furthermore, The Panel will consider applicants for all postgraduate awards for which they meet the eligibility requirements
- Successful applicants may only receive an IET Postgraduate Scholarship or Prize during their PhD research.

- On the application form, you will need to include details of your referee. This should be someone who is in a position to comment on your academic ability, e.g. PhD supervisor or employer. The referee should submit a reference online by the deadline.
