Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship 2027 in Japan | Fully Funded Research Fellowship

Applications are now open for the Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Fellowship 2027, a prestigious fully funded research fellowship that enables outstanding researchers from around the world to conduct research in Japan. The program promotes international cooperation, cultural exchange, and academic advancement through collaborative research at leading Japanese universities and research institutions.

Each year, approximately 15 researchers are selected to undertake a six-month research stay in Japan between June 2027 and March 2028.

Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive:

• Monthly allowance of JPY 220,000
• Arrival grant of JPY 120,000

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Hold a PhD degree at the time of application
• Be 45 years old or younger (born in or after 1981)
• Hold non-Japanese nationality
• Be employed in their home country
• Obtain an invitation or acceptance from a host institution in Japan
• Have sufficient proficiency in English or Japanese
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to contributing to their home country after the fellowship
