Barnard College in the United States calls applications for Post Baccalaureate Fellowship on Digital Humanities Center, Milstein Center for Teaching & Learning.

The Post Baccalaureate Fellowship program is a research and career development opportunity for graduating seniors in Barnard College. The Fellowship is a one-year program (with the possibility of renewal) that allows for the development of professional career skills, on-going technical and workplace learning, and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to new technologies using digital humanities methods and platforms. All fellows engage together as part of a cohort in on-going professional development and learning from Beyond Barnard in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources. Reporting to a faculty director, fellowships are full time paid appointments with health benefits. The fellowship will extend from September 1st to August 31st and include paid holiday and vacation days. Fellows will be paid a stipend of $45,000 per annum.

Position Summary

The incumbent at this Post Bacculerte Fellowship at Barnard College will be reporting to the Faculty Director of the Digital Humanities Center, the DHC Post Baccalaureate Fellow will work with and assist the Director and the Digital Scholarship Librarian in providing instructional and research support to faculty and students. They will bring a strong interest in research and teaching in the humanities and provide assistance in designing and delivering workshops, developing training materials on digital humanities techniques and associated methodologies, and managing the DHC’s web presence including social media and digital publications. In addition to that, the candidate will also work with other campus units to collaborate on programming and projects (e.g. the Barnard Center for Research on Women, the Center for Engaged Pedagogy, etc.) and will assist faculty and students across the curriculum in building the digital humanities at Barnard.

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Contribute to an inclusive and diverse Digital Humanities Center
• Develop a research project on sustainability, environmental history, environmental justice, or a similar topic that can be shared on the DHC website as an example of how digital technologies can enhance research in the humanities.
• Collaborate with faculty and DHC staff on digital humanities projects
• Design and conduct workshops for courses to expand training in the Digital Humanities at Barnard
• Train student assistants who will provide direct support for students and courses
• Develop tutorials, with DHC students, on how to use digital tools in research and teaching
• Identify and evaluate digital scholarship tools and methodologies in support of teaching, research, and creative activities in digital scholarship.
• Research new developments in digital technologies and equipment and ensure that the DHC makes available the best technologies for research and teaching.
• With the DHC Staff develop and support public and campus programming in the Digital Humanities.
• Maintain and update the DHC website.
• Create and manage DHC communications through the DHC blog, Twitter, and other social media.
• Participate in conferences, remote conversations, and translational research opportunities in the humanities.

Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Coursework in (e.g.) humanistic disciplines.
• Experience with tutoring, training, or teaching.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Desire to learn new digital methods and platforms for teaching and research.
• Ability to think flexibly and engage in creative problem-solving and trouble-shooting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team of diverse colleagues.
