Applications are open for Pre-doc Fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States of America. The university is searching for a Predoctoral Fellow at the Laboratory for Social Minds within Dietrich College.

The lab strives to conduct research across many cultures, backgrounds, and nationalities to enables cross-cultural comparisons; to that end, candidates with native-level fluency in another language, particularly beyond English and other European languages, are strongly preferred. This role is a research intensive position with a high degree of autonomy, conducting scientific research into the nature of argument-making and how people attempt to convince each other of beliefs they hold.

Core Responsibilities

  • Development of novel NLP techniques, data analysis of large-scale corpora of argument-making online and in the historical record, development of novel conceptual frameworks in cognitive science, statistical analysis, data visualization.
  • In addition to that, communicate to other scientists and the public, and the authorship with Prof DeDeo of scientific papers with a view towards peer-reviewed publication.

Qualifications 

Applicants must have the following qualifications for this Pre-doc Fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University

  • Bachelor’s degree is required..
  • A minimum of one year of research experience at the undergraduate or post-graduate level is preferred.
  • Experience with scientific writing either as a Bachelor’s thesis or as a co-author on a paper is highly desired.
  • Fluency in a high-level programming language, such as Python.
