Applications are open for Public Policy Research Fellowship at Drake University in the United States of America.  The Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizenship Engagement at Drake University seeks applicants interested in conducting research under the Retirement Security policy focus area. Research fellows work in collaboration with the Policy Director to execute a federal level public policy research project in a topical area impacting retirement outcomes of individuals in the United States.

Applicants must propose their own area of study, specific project, and key deliverables in the application process and express how this project connects with the work of The Harkin Institute. Research fellowships are designed to be part-time and last approximately one year. Many research fellows do this work in addition to their fulltime employment. Research fellows may be faculty members, but this is not a requirement for consideration. Applicant must have experience conducting public policy research and analysis. This is a part-time position.

Duties

Candidates on this Public Policy Research Fellowship at Drake University will do the following duties

  • Provide strategic analysis and background for the development of a research project for The Harkin Institute.
  • Serve as the primary institute contact for helping to resolve problems, questions, and concerns regarding this specific research project.
  • Engage student employees of The Harkin Institute and supervise their work on the project.
  • Create a product that will be used to stimulate research and knowledge sharing in this area.
  • Write memos, briefs and other papers as necessary for the project.
  • Report regularly on the progress of the project to the Policy Director.
  • Build and maintain relationships with The Harkin Institute team and third party contributors to the Institute’s research.
  • Participate in meetings, events and conferences that enhance the research project and the Retirement Security policy area of the Institute.
  • Participate in other Retirement Security projects as appropriate.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Experience conducting research for a non-profit, community-based organization or government entity.
  • A minimum of three years of research experience on issues related to retirement security.
  • Ability to research, analyze and use data in shaping policy and educational messages.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing and in oral presentations to a range of audiences. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
