Details

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Boston. This position is for highly motivated young researchers for a postdoctoral position in experimental quantum information processing utilizing superconducting circuits. The position is expected to last two years with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will be working in the exciting and nascent field of superconducting quantum computing or quantum information. Superconducting quantum information is exploding with research funding and interest from industry giants such as Google, IBM, Microsoft, Intel, and a venture-funded startup ecosystem making large investments over the promise to realize a functional quantum computer in the next decade. The opportunities right now for scientists and engineers are vast in this field since currently there is a shortage of highly skilled quantum engineers.

Examples of Duties

Candidates on this Research Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts will do the following duties

  • Assist the laboratory Principal Investigator (PI) in new and on-going research projects.
  • Develop nanofabrication methods to fabricate symmetry protected quantum bits protected against decoherence.
  • Perform low-temperature low-noise measurements of quantum circuits as well as perform numerical simulations to compare measurement results to theory.
  • Assist with training and monitoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Assist with writing of scientific publications and grants.
  • Participate in other departmental activities such as seminars and journal clubs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field. Experience in at least one of the following areas required: Nanofabrication, Low temperature measurement, Microwave Circuit Design, and Theoretical expertise in Josephson physics.

The University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) is a public research university in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the only public research university in Boston and the third-largest campus in the five-campus University of Massachusetts system.[5] UMass Boston is the third most diverse university in the United States. While a majority of UMass Boston students are Massachusetts residents, international students and students from other states make up a significant portion of the student body. It is an official member institution of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities[9] and the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.
