Position Summary 

The incumbent will join the Melbourne School of Engineering in the Parkville Campus. The incumbent will work with leading internationally recognized researchers at the Faculty of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. This is a fixed-term position for 2.5 years. The School of Engineering seeks an emerging, motivated Research Fellow to contribute to a multidisciplinary project at the forefront between neuroscience, robotics, and artificial intelligence. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to develop a career in research and apply their mathematical skills to neuroscience.

Role 

The research fellow will work in The Bionics, Biomedical Imaging and Neuroengineering group, comprised of leading internationally recognized researchers. S/he will work on a multidisciplinary project on perception, navigation, and spatial awareness, in which the insights and mechanisms from neuroscience and the modeling of neural systems, particularly of vision and other sensory systems, can be analyzed and used to inspire applications in autonomous robots and other artificial systems.

Furthermore, the candidate will also have the opportunity to visit and collaborate with other researchers in the research program, including those involved in robotics in other institutions in both Australia and in the USA.

Requirements 

  • A doctoral qualification in the area of computational neuroscience, neural modeling, bio-signal or statistical signal processing, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A record of quality research as well as strong theoretical and analytical skills.
  • A commitment to pursuing the relevant research topics and also the ability to show initiative and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders including non-technical audiences.
  • Furthermore, the ability to work as part of a team.

Benefits/Compensation 

The University of Melbourne pays a salary of $91,125 – $97,812 p.a. (Level A) or $102,967 – $122,268 p.a. (Level B) to the candidates who undertake this Research fellowship.
