The Goethe Goes Global scholarship for master’s programmes is a ground­breaking project, and unique in the academic landscape of Germany. In this programme, up to 20 scholarships are awarded per year.

Moreover, the purpose of the scholarship is to foster academic career and support during applicants master’s studies. Also, a master’s degree is the prerequisite for starting a PhD in one of the research units at Goethe University. This could contribute to career as an outstanding researcher as well as specialist in field.

Innovation takes place beyond the boundaries of disciplines and cultures, therefore internationalization lies at the core of Goethe University’s efforts in research and teaching.

Incre­asingly, international researchers are being drawn to Frankfurt as a result of its growing academic reputation and its national and international research centres. Among the most important research areas are Oncology, Neurosciences, Macromolecular Complexes, Cardiovascular Research, Cell and Gene Therapy, Biodiversity and Climate Research, (Heavy Ion) Physics, (Sustainable Architecture for) Finance as well as, in the Social Sciences, the Formation of Normative Orders.

Today, Goethe University ranks among the top ten in external funding and among the top three largest universities in Germany, with three clusters of excellence in medicine, life sciences and the humanities.

Benefits

The Goethe Goes Global Scholarship offers:

  1. A monthly scholarship amount of 1,000€ for the standard period of a master’s programme at Goethe-University (generally 2 years)
  2. Support and orientation from an experienced master’s student buddy during studies
  3. Access to seminars focusing on professional skills at their Graduate Academy (GRADE), normally open only to PhD students and postdocs
  4. Access to an innovative research environment and networks that connect applicants with fellow scholarship holders and other advanced researchers
  5. Career support through Goethe University’s Research Support Office

Application Documents

  • A motivation form: Please write about prospective academic study plan and academic ability. In addition, elaborate on principle research interests. In case applicants want to be involved in a research unit, please check if the master’s programme of their choice is affiliated with one or more research units.
  • A comprehensive CV: Please submit it in tabular form (if a CV was already submitted with the master’s programme application, applicants do not need to hand in another one)
  • Two recommendation forms: They must be filled out by professors or other academic staff. Please use the provided template for the recommendation forms. Please make sure they are signed by hand and stamped with an official university seal.
