Details

Every year, the Colt Foundation awards up to four Fellowships to international students to study for a Ph.D. in occupational or environmental health to study at any university in the United Kingdom. Fellowships are normally for three years, but the Cold Foundation considers applications for awards over shorter periods from applicants who are currently pursuing a Ph.D. but do not have full funding from other sources to cover the completion of their degree.

Funding

The Colt Foundation Fellowships offers the following financial aids to international students doing their Ph.D. in the United Kingdom

  • Stipend: The rate for the stipend in 2019/20 was £15, 009 (£17,009 for students in London), and it rises each year according to UK inflation.
  • Up to £5,000 per year towards research expenses. (which must be satisfactorily justified).
  • The Foundation provides full fees for UK/EU students. Where applicants from other countries need to pay higher fees, they will have to make up the difference from other sources.

Application Procedure

In order to apply for this opportunity, prospective students will have to submit the following things on  [email protected]

  • An outline of the proposed research, including the scientific questions that it will address, the data that will be collected, and how they will be analyzed to answer the study questions.
  • The applicant’s CV as well as a detailed letter of support from the proposed supervisor.
  • Furthermore, contact details of two referees.

Selection Process

In selecting the Fellows, the Colt Foundation takes into account the academic track record of the applicant, the quality of the research project that will be undertaken, and the environment in which the Ph.D. training will be undertaken, including the commitment of the supervisors. Furthermore, the Colt Foundation is most keen to support individuals with the potential to become future research leaders in occupational and environmental health.

The Colt Foundation funds high-quality research projects in the field of occupational and environmental health, particularly those aimed at discovering the cause of illnesses arising from conditions at the place of work. The Trustees are especially keen to fund research that is going to make a positive difference to legislation or working practices.
