Applications call for Newton-Mosharafa Fund 2020
The Newton-Mosharafa Fund is £50 million, seven-year science and innovation partnership between the UK and Egypt. The Fund brings together the British and Egyptian scientific research and innovation sectors to find joint solutions to the challenges facing Egypt in economic development and social welfare.

Newton-Mosharafa is part of the UK’s £735 million Newton Fund running in 17 countries, for more information about the global fund. Grants to create joint research projects between the UK and Egyptian institutions for up £300,000 per partnership.
Grants can be up to a maximum of £200,000 and duration is 2 years. Grants under the Newton Fund Impact Scheme allow project leaders to find new pathways to impact which can be realized within the former grant’s research and innovation area or under a different theme targeting other development-relevant stakeholders.
The Newton-Mosharafa Fund in Egypt is financed jointly by the UK and the Egyptian Government. The funding on the UK side comes from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. In Egypt, the funding is contributed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The Newton Mosharafa fund is delivered by several delivery partners among them the British Council in partnership with the science and technology development fund and the Central department of Missions
The Newton Fund builds research and innovation partnerships with 17 active partner countries to support their economic development and social welfare, It forms part of the UK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) commitment and its primary focus is to develop partner countries’ research and innovation capacity for long-term sustainable growth. It has a total UK Government investment of £735 million up until 2021, with matched resources from the partner countries.
