University of Copenhagen Postdoctoral Program in Climate Change Adaptation, Gender & Health 2025

Applications are open for the University of Copenhagen Postdoctoral Program in Climate Change Adaptation, Gender & Health 2025. They are looking for a dynamic and ambitious researcher for a two-year postdoc position, commencing March 1, 2025. The position is offered within the research project “Himili Pamoja, Gendered Encounters in Climate Change Adaptation in Tanzania” placed in the Section of Global Health, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen.

The position entails close collaboration with Danish and Tanzanian project partners, postdocs and PhD students at the University of Dar es Salaam and State University of Zanzibar. The position is financed by Danida, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark. The successful candidate will be working at the Global Health Section, Department of Public Health in Copenhagen and engage in field work in Tanzania.

Duties

The position includes conceptualization and completion of a research project within the four cornerstones of the Himili Pamoja research project: climate change adaptation, gender, health, and livelihoods in Tanzania, including Zanzibar. The selected candidate will contribute to project management, co-supervision of PhD students, and occasionally, course facilitation and teaching within the educational programmes of the section. In addition, the selected candidate will play a role in designing and implementing science communication and engagement with relevant authorities and stakeholders in Tanzania and Denmark, together with other project partners.

Benefits of Copenhagen Postdoctoral Program

  • Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisations. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,500 DKK/approx. 5,100 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Eligibility for Copenhagen Postdoctoral Program

They are looking for a scholar who is enthusiastic about ethnographic field research in rural and urban settings in Tanzania. The required background and competencies are as follows:

  • You have a PhD within social sciences, preferably anthropology with specialization in medical anthropology/ anthropology of health.
  • You have experience with ethnographic research approaches and social science theory and are passionate about conducting fieldwork with communities and populations in low-income settings.
  • You have published peer-reviewed papers as a first – and co-author.
  • You are keen to contribute to theory and practice within the field of gender transformative climate change adaptation, together with project partners in Tanzania and Denmark.
  • You have experience in teaching and supervision at the Master level.
  • You have experience with using qualitative research software
  • You have excellent communication skills, also in academic writing and speaking in English. Familiarity with Swahili is an advantage.
  • You can pro-actively contribute with commitment and progress within the team and add a cordial and respectful work environment.
