IBA is accepting applications for a legal internship in The Hague, Netherlands office in the north sea. IBA is the world’s largest organisation of law societies, bar associations, law firms and also, individual lawyers.

Notice about the Job

Due to the Covid-19 impact, this year, it is a limited remote internship for only three months. However, there is a possibility of extending the internship to 6 months. You will be working in the International Crime Court(ICC) programme in IBA.

The ICC Programme monitors issues related to fairness and equality of arms at the ICC and other Hague-based war crimes tribunals as well as encourages the legal community to engage with the work of these Courts. The Programme also acts as the interface between the Courts and the global legal community. Hence, special focus is placed on monitoring emerging issues of particular relevance to lawyers and collaborating with key partners on specific activities to increase engagement of the legal community on ICC and ICL issues.

Paid Internship in New York CFR- 

Education

The applicant for paid IBA legal internship in the Netherlands must be one of the following to apply for the internship:

  1. undergraduate law student
  2. postgraduate law student
  3. newly qualified lawyer at the International Bar Association’s office

Major Responsibility in IBA Legal Internship

The major role of the intern in Hague’s office will be to assist in supporting the IBA’s International Criminal Court & International Criminal Law Programme. Other major responsibilities include:

  • Extensive research and writing
  • Collection of material for IBA reports
  • Analysis of evolving ICL jurisprudence and policy developments
  • Prepare briefing notes for meetings, presentations and events
  • Assist with updating the Programme pages on the IBA website
  • Also, Assist with organising an internal database of research material
  • When required, the intern should assist with routine office administration

Required skills and Experience

  • Advanced studies in international criminal, humanitarian or human rights law
  • Excellent research, writing and analysis skills
  • Strong interpersonal oral as well as written skills
  • Familiarity with computer-based research
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Experience organising or contributing to workshops or seminars advantageous;
  • In addition, prior intern experience at the ICC, ICTY or other international organizations is advantageous

Furthermore, the selected applicants will join the job after 2 months of sending the application.
