Application calls for Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship in Counseling and Psychological Services at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana

CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow provides direct clinical services, including short-term individual therapy, group therapy/workshops, and psychological testing and other assessments. The candidates on this Postdoctoral Fellowship at Tulane University also participates in designing and delivering outreach programs to students, as well as developing consultation materials and presentations on topics pertinent to various University constituencies. Research activities, including data collection and analysis, may also be pursued at times. The Fellow collaborates with a multidisciplinary staff in building a collegial environment and in maintaining a consistently high standard of care.

Required Education and Expertise

  • Successful completion of an APA-accredited internship by the start of the fellowship, in addition to two pre-doctoral years providing direct clinical service.
  • Ph.D. or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program by the start of the fellowship.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Dedication to protecting the confidentiality and meeting all ethical standards associated with the practice of psychology within a university counseling center context.
  • Prior experience providing services in a university counseling center.
  • Strong case formulation, assessment, and treatment skills, including the ability to understand transference and countertransference in working clinically with a diversity of clients, issues, and levels of impairment.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, able to dialogue effectively with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to collaborate collegially with multidisciplinary staff, both within CAPS and throughout the University community.
  • Knowledge of developmental trends and concerns of undergraduates, as well as graduate and professional students.
  • Demonstrated quantitative competence, able to assist with conducting and evaluating research.
  • The ongoing pursuit of self-knowledge and understanding of own personal factors affecting clinical work.
