Le Bal Awards for Young Creation is open to all photographers and/or videographers living in Europe. Moreover, the award is open for creators under 40 years of age. LE BAL will support the laureate in completing an already-initiated creative project over a two year period. Moreover, Le Bal awards projects falling under the broad spectrum of the documentary image, still and motion, representing diverse world hypotheses, positions, and constructions of human experience.

The laureate and special mentions chosen by the judging panel will enjoy two days of masterclasses in 2020 where they will meet 12 professionals and personalities from the world of visual arts (publishers, graphic designers, institute managers, critics, artists, collectors), to gain a better understanding of work issues and enrich their creative project.

Le Bal Awards for Young Creation

The laureate will receive a grant of 20,000 euros to complete their project. In autumn 2021, the two years will culminate in an exhibition of the laureate’s work across the two spaces at LE BAL and a publication. The jury, chaired by Diane Dufour, director of the BAL will meet on October 18, 2019. Moreover, the jury will distinguish the winner of the award and six favorites.

Who is eligible for Le Bal Awards?

To be eligible to compete for the Le Bal Awards for Young Creation, the applicants must:

  • Be under 40 years of age on the date the entry is sent
  • Be the age of 18 or over
  • Reside in Europe (European Union and Switzerland)
  • Have an already-initiated photographic and/or video project

How to apply for Le Bal Awards for Young Creation?

To participate in the Le Bal Awards for Young Creation, the applicants, at first must meet the eligibility criteria. Moreover, the applicants must complete the submission form and submit it along with the entry photographs via post. The entry fee to the award is free. However, the participants are responsible for the cost associated with postal delivery.

Moreover, the submission should include:

  • a coherent series of 15 (fifteen) to 20 (twenty) photographs from his or her current project, maximum format 30 x 40 cm, marked with the name of the artist on the back,
  • And/or 1 (one) to 3 (three) videos in .mp4, .mov or .avi format, on a CD, DVS or USB stick marked with the name of the artist
  • a text presenting the project in English or in French including a note of intent as well as a description of the work in progress (format, technique, medium)
  • Likewise, a completed and signed an entry form
  • Further, a detailed CV, including the Entrant’s education, exhibitions, publications, awards
  • Also, a stamped envelope addressed to the Entrant to return the entry

Deadline

The deadline for the Le Bal awards for Young Creations is on 20 September 2019. Moreover, past the deadline, Le Bal will not consider the entries eligible.
