The African Investigative Journalism Conference (#AIJC19) is the premier annual gathering of African investigative reporters. Further, a three-day international conference for and about investigative journalism in the SADC Region. It involves skills training, networking, promoting, updates on cutting edge tools, collaboration and in-depth accounts of major investigative stories. Also, It is hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
Moreover, This year’s conference will feature more than 50 speakers in workshops, panel discussions. Also, networking sessions, as well as skills training in areas such as advanced data analysis and security. Key speakers include award-winning journalists from across the world and Africa’s best. This is a chance to hear and meet those leading the field and enhance your skills with the latest tools and tips.
In 2019, we have 10 fully-funded places for journalism students from the SADC region. (Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, eSwatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe).
Additionally, At AIJC2019 there will be opportunities to hear some of the best investigative journalists in Africa talking about their stories and sharing their skills. Further, We have invited a number of international speakers, and we will provide courses in a range of skills important for all graduating journalists. Further, we will be running a student’s newsroom during the conference, where they will do online and social media coverage, and contribute to our conference edition of the campus newspaper, Vuvuzela, under the supervision of tutors.
