The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is among the best engineering/technology institutions in the world. They are also among India’s most well-known brands. In a fresh beginning, the Government of India – through this program, offers fully funded fellowship exclusively for ASEAN aspirants to pursue PhD at an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of their choice. This an exclusive program and different from all other Government of India programs such as Study in India and all other fellowships. Accordingly, it doesn’t share any common application procedure with them.
The Government of India offers 1,000 fully funded fellowship to students from ASEAN countries. Each fellowship has a tenure of 5 years. The recipients will receive a monthly stipend of INR 31,000 for the first 2 years. The stipend is subject to increase from the third year to the amount of INR 35,000.
The students will also receive a research grant of INR 17,000 for research expenses such as travel, books, contingency. The fellowship also covers accommodation. The government provides up to 24% – as per Govt. norms (depending on the city) – of the stipend, if hostel accommodation not provided.
ASEAN Candidates eligible for the fully funded IIT Fellowship will have a profile that aligns with the following characteristics:
Interested candidates apply online on the portal. They choose the IIT and the specific program/area in the online application. Each IIT a candidate applies to conducts its admission process consisting of an application screening, shortlisting, possible online interview, and announces its admission offers, including the waitlist. Candidates selected in multiple programs give their final acceptance to exactly one, and the consolidated results are announced on this portal after duly operating the waitlist.
Eligible ASEAN students can apply for the fully funded Indian Government Fellowship at IIT by completing and submitting the online application form. The application form requires the candidates to select among the IIT institutes all over India, while also choosing the subject of their PhD fellowship. After choosing the educational institute, the candidates can then apply with required documents. The documents include a CV, letter of motivation, academic transcripts, as well as recommendation letters.
ASEAN students can apply for the fully funded Government of India fellowship until 31 October 2019. Applications arriving after the deadline are not eligible for fellowship.
