Save the Children Public Policy & Advocacy (PPA) department invites application from students for Foreign Aid Policy & Advocacy Internship. This individual will report directly to the public policy and advocacy team in DC.  In addition to that, s/he will assist in daily activities and, with guidance from staff, work on a variety of projects. The main focus will be on U.S. foreign aid, but other key areas will include maternal, newborn, and child health and humanitarian response policy and advocacy.

What will the Foreign Aid Public Policy & Advocacy Intern do at Save the Children?

Among the major responsibilities, Foreign Aid Public Policy & Advocacy Intern at Save the Children will:

• Support the policy team by conducting research, maintaining databases, taking meeting minutes for internal and external meetings, and creating fact sheets.
• Support engagement with congressional offices, event-planning (such as congressional briefings), in-district meetings and events, and advocacy training.
• Likewise, attend events, hearings, and briefings to represent Save the Children.
• Attend Congressional hearings and briefings as well as NGO coalition working group meetings.
• Manage communication among staff and the rest of the agency via various internal communication outlets.
• Provide administrative support as needed (scanning, copying, organizing, mailing, etc.).
• Similarly, provide support on fundraising projects and proposals for the department.
• Attend internal meetings covering Save the Children’s global programs.
• Furthermore, perform other duties as needed.

Eligibility for Foreign Aid Policy and Advocacy Internship

• Must be an actively enrolled undergraduate student or have graduated within 6 months of the start date
• Basically, the organization is looking for someone who has a demonstrated interest in public policy, advocacy, international organizations, and/or international development
• Experience working on the Hill is a plus.
• Similarly, must possess strong writing skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a team.
• Knowledge and understanding of key issues as well as current trends in U.S. foreign policy and international development.
• Must be a quick learner, able to multi-task and switch gears easily, and able to prioritize to meet deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills, creativity, and flexibility as well as strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Currently eligible to work in the U.S.
