The Royal Society calls applicants for the Royal Society Athena Prize for 2020. The teams working in the UK’s academic and research communities, who have contributed most to the advancement of diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) will receive the Royal Society Athena Prize biennially (in even years)within their communities. Furthermore, the recipients of the prize receive a medal and a gift of £5,000.

The Royal Society is committed to promoting and increasing diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). A diverse and inclusive scientific workforce draws from the widest range of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences thereby maximizing innovation and creativity in science for the benefit of humanity.

Prize

• The successful candidates will receive prize money of $5000 and a medal.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the nomination of the Royal Society Athena Prize

• The teams must be working in a research or an academic group in the UK.
• Along with that, in the application, the teams and the members of the teams must be clearly defined. Also, there is no limit on the size of the team.
• Additionally, previous individuals or teams cannot reapply in the coming session. However, they can apply as a part of a different team.
• Also, the teams that were previously unsuccessful to grab the Royal Society Athena Prize can reapply.
• Furthermore, the nomination of the candidates is made by a proposer through the Society’s online system which should include the names and contact details of two referees. Additionally, the nominator should make the applicants aware of their nomination.

Call for nominations

• The call for nominations opens on the Royal Society’s Anniversary Day – 29 November 2019.
• Also, nominations will open until 15:00 GMT on 27 January 2020.
• In addition to that, the members of the selection committee will not accept self-nominations.
