The Royal Ontario Museum invites undergraduate and graduate students to apply for the Department of Art & Culture Internship Program 2020/21. The Department of Art & Culture Internship Program 2020-21 is a paid internship opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to intern in Canada. Internships are usually full-time where students have to serve 35 hours per week during the summer (June-August); or part-time during the academic year. Propose of  Internship 

This Internship is an opportunity for students to explore museum careers and gain professional experience and training. The Art & Culture Internship Program awards internships to students interested in a career in the arts and also in the fields related to the ROM’s Art & Culture collections. Moreover, the museum’s many departments offer a wide range of learning opportunities for interns that provide the practical working experience, to complement academic credit, and to inspire students to become the next generation of museum professionals.

Position summary

The intern will be under the supervision of a full-time staff member. Each intern is placed in one of the collection areas in the Department of Art & Culture that are relevant to his/her interests and career goals. The intern position will be doing the works like research using artifacts or collection records, library research, database work, assisting on an exhibition project, assisting in cataloging historic or new acquisitions, developing content for museum educational initiatives, engaging with visiting artists or the public, writing for the general public, and so on. In addition to that, the intern will have to write and submit a final report summarizing their activities at the end of the internship.

Eligibilities 

  • The internship is open to all undergraduate and graduate students in the world. But students must be eligible to obtain the Canadian Visa and working permit if the candidate is not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Unless otherwise specified in the position description, undergraduate or graduate student in good standing at a secondary education institution, or a recent graduate (within two years).
  • Unless otherwise specified in the position description, internships are open to applicants from around the world.
  • Some background in the internship subject area is necessary.

Compensation/Stipend 

The Internship at the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada is a paid position. The Royal Ontario Museum pays a stipend of $4500 per internship to its intern.
