The World Food Program calls applications for PD Summer Internship Program 2020 on Reporting and Communications in WFP Office Rwanda. The position will be based in the Communications Unit in Kigali, Rwanda. The internship will be typically for a period of at least 3 months from May/June to August/ September 2020.

Responsibilities

• The intern will perform the following duties the direct supervision of Head of the Unit
• Contributing to the development of ongoing projects, plans, and processes by liaising with internal counterparts to ensure effective collaboration to gather information.
• Writing human interest stories and develop photo essays based on WFP operations in Rwanda to be published on WFP’s external communications platform, Medium.
• Under guidance, preparing communication content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
• Supporting the identification, development, and management of potential partnerships to collaborative working leading to improved communications and development programs.
• Supporting preparations for external field missions and join (as applicable) to gather communication.
• Performing any other duties as required for visibility purposes.
• Attending and drafting meeting minutes for pertinent meetings such as with the One UN communication group.
• Furthermore, performing any other duties as required.

Requirements 

• Current enrollment in a master’s degree OR a recent graduate of a master’s degree (graduated within the last 6 months).
• Excellent English verbal and writing skills as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong interest in communications, photography, and developing targeted social media content. Also, culturally sensitive and enjoys working in a new context with people of different cultures.
• Furthermore, the willingness to travel regularly to field locations throughout the country.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this WFP Summer Internship Program 2020, the intern will have

• Very good knowledge of reporting and communications on WFP’s operations on Rwanda.
• Similarly, a very good understanding of how externally published human interest stories and photo essays are developed.
• Communication skills to create content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks.
• Furthermore, a general understanding of WFP overall operations.

Compensation/Stipend 

WFP pays a monthly stipend of approximately USD US$ 570 per month as a contribution towards basic subsistence costs to the candidates undertaking the WFP Summer Internship Program 2020 in Rwanda. In addition to that, WFP will reimburse travel tickets for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
