Job Overview of Vacancy for Director of Communications at University of California at the USA

Manages a comprehensive communications program and plans and oversees the execution of a range of journalistic and marketing projects for the Baskin School of Engineering with complex communication requirements involving both print and digital content. Provides guidance and mentorship to subordinates to advance the school’s communication mission in accordance with established policies. Also, this position reports to the Executive Advisor to the Dean and works closely with school leadership, including the Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Dean, and Department Chairs. Moreover, meets regularly with the Director of Marketing Communications, as well as campus content creators from across campus to ensure that campus priorities such as student success and research excellence are communicated effectively.

Duties:

• Advises and consults with Baskin Engineering senior administration (Dean, faculty
• Also, associate Deans, Assistant Dean, Department Chairs), senior peer group, and campus marketing communications regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies and long- and short-term communications plans and/or projects that effectively deliver the desired message to diverse audiences, and build the school’s brand.
• Additionally, advises campus communications senior staff and leadership on topics related to Baskin Engineering priorities and high-profile topics.
• Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Similarly, strong knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, project management, and the most appropriate and effective applications.
• Broad knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively manage / supervise professional technical staff. Also, including design concepts, various media and mediums, applications, etc.
• Likewise, strong knowledge of the location, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices and infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, issues in engineering higher education and current research trends.
• Strong knowledge of financial and personnel management, including understanding of management techniques, guiding principles, relevant laws, policies and best practices.
• Moreover, solid management skills to select, train, evaluate, lead, direct, guide and motivate subordinate staff to produce high quality work; skill to take corrective action as required.
• Furthermore, demonstrated active listening skills.
