Position Summary:
This position seeks an enthusiastic IT security engineer and architect with a willingness to learn and the ability to take initiative and produce results while delivering quality service and effective solutions. This individual will report to the Manager, Cybersecurity Governance, Risk, and Compliance, School of Medicine and Public Health.
Duties:
- Recommend, implement, and maintain technical and procedural controls, such as system security best practices
- Also, provide strategic guidance, oversight to security architecture and design for a variety of technology, such as remote access and cloud solutions
- Likewise, evaluates and recommends security controls and procedures in acquisition, development, and change management lifecycle of information systems
- Provide strategy and implementation guidance, such as standard operating procedures and protocol
- Interpret standards, requirements, and their applications to the enterprise environment
- Perform technical management, such as configuration management, information management, and quality assurance
- Also, ability to function as an enterprise security subject matter expert who can explain complex topics to those without a technical background
- Identifying current and emerging technology issues including security trends, vulnerabilities, and threats
- Conducting proactive research to assess security weaknesses and recommend appropriate strategies
Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Required:
- 2 or more years’ experience with IT security engineering or architecture
- Understanding of applicable information security standards and guidelines
- Similarly, solid understanding of security protocols, cryptography, authentication and authorization
- Good working knowledge of current IT risks and experience implementing security best practices
Preferred:
- Comprehensive knowledge of endpoint management, including directories and group policy
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity industry standards (e.g. HIPAA, NIST, ISO, CIS, etc.), as well as a detailed understanding of NIST Special Publication 800-160
- Expertise in network design, security controls, and system administration
- Demonstrated ability to identify risks associated with business processes, operations, information security programs, and projects
- Also, exhibited ability to consult and engineer in the development and design of security best practices and implementation of solid security standards who can explain technical topics to a variety of audiences
- Demonstrated experience with assessment, development, implementation, optimization, and documentation of a comprehensive and broad set of technologies, including cloud computing
- Extensive experience in information security and/or IT risk management with a focus on security.
