Job Summary
The Office of Communications serves as the primary information resource for the School. We can help journalists with their print, web, TV, and radio stories by identifying experts for interviews on a wide range of public health topics. Also, the University create content for the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health website and other Harvard publications. Our office also writes press releases announcing the latest research and news coming out of the School.
Duties:
- Translate priorities from the Office of Communications (and, more broadly, the School and Harvard University) into dynamic, compelling social media content
- Also, develop and manage social media strategies that produce measurable, positive results, including conceptualizing and executing creative and original content for social media channels
- Develop and maintain a robust and innovative social media calendar that both responds to national and international events and promotes the activities and values of the School
- Likewise, keep up to date on best practices and trends in social media; recommend new uses of existing platforms and the integration of new social media platforms
- Refine, share, and encourage compliance with the School’s social media guidelines and best practices with colleagues across the School
- Moreover, use Sprout social to create and schedule posts across the School’s social media channels for an audience of over 600,000 followers
- On a daily basis, review social listening information and incoming tagged messages to surface key content about the School and its affiliates
- Create monthly analytics reports for the Office of Communications and assist in the analysis of existing social media strategies
- Similarly, support creation and distribution of weekly and monthly newsletters, as needed
- Coordinate with the School’s Events team on promoting externally-focused events
- Provide general administrative support for members of the Office of Communications and other duties, as needed
- Likewise, perform other duties
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Likewise, 5+ years of related experience required, including in digital communications, online marketing, and/or social media content development, strategy, and management
- Also, experience translating complex content for a wide audience
- Demonstrated knowledge of Sprout or other related social media management tools
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, English, or a related social science preferred
- Experience and expertise in various social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn strongly preferred; knowledge of WordPress a plus
- Also, experience with content related to public health, life sciences, or social sciences; experience working in higher education (including at a graduate school) a plus
- Video and photo editing skills preferred; experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Canva, Later, and Google Analytics preferred
- Likewise, experience understanding and adapting to a changing social media landscape, including learning new platforms; tech-savvy and well versed with computer applications; familiarity with best practices in online content strategy and creation preferred
- Moreover, excellent writing skills and experience writing clear, engaging content appropriate for different platforms and audiences preferred; working knowledge of AP style a plus
