Duties:

1. Short-term therapeutic intervention with a broad range of Elder Care and Caregiver concerns.
2.  Clinical psychosocial and psychoeducational consultation regarding elder care planning, ongoing elder care concerns, and crisis situations.
3. Also, elder Care planning, consultation with and referral to campus and/or community resources, ongoing support, and case management as needed.
4.  Furthermore, facilitation of support groups
5. The Elder Care Counselor is available to consult with Employee Assistance counselors and the Director, as well as supervisors, and faculty and staff managers regarding faculty and staff with elder/adult dependent care concerns.
6. Likewise provide clinical backup to Employee Assistance Program for assessment, referral, and crisis intervention if needed.
7. Moreover, maintain strict confidentiality in all relevant aspects of his/her clinical work and clinically related activities.

Administrative Functions

1. Maintains client statistical information
2. Also, develops, updates, coordinates, and evaluates information and referral resources that support program services found on campus as well as in the community.
3. Participates in developing and implementing new program components and executes special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Maintains familiarity and ability to work with the diverse issues and needs of various multicultural, ethnic, socio-economic, educational, and age-specific populations within the University community.
• Also, has knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulation regarding disability; workers’ compensation; mental health; employee relations-labor relations; alcohol and drugs; Medicare/Medicaid; public housing; FMLA.
• Demonstrates strong, clear communication skills in writing, in person and in presentation form.
• Maintains a working knowledge of, and the ability to counsel and intervene in a broad range of clinical problems such as marital, family, interpersonal, parent-child, intrapsychic, behavioral, substance abuse, suicide-risk, depression.
• Is an expert on elder/adult dependent care and work issues and keeps abreast of the latest developments and trends in elder/adult dependent care programs.
• Likewise, has strong interviewing skills and interpersonal relations skills including the ability to establish rapport and on-going relationships with clients.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills in a range of counseling intervention techniques including individual, group, departments or units, systems and organizations.
• Moreover, understands the social, emotional, behavioral and psychological implications of an employee’s personal problems for themselves and their work environment.
• Understands management and supervision theory and practice, including maintenance of performance standards.
• Additionally, is skilled in conflict resolution, individual problem identification and resolutions methods and utilizes them.
• Has advanced knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior and its manifestations in human beings.
• Furthermore, maintains strict confidentiality in all relevant aspects of his/her work and related program activities.
• Functions independently.
