Context
In 2021 and beyond, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Communication team will work actively and in partnership with the Resource Mobilization (Fundraising) team towards developing the ICRC as a fundraising organization. Also, the teams will create joint approaches and shared accountabilities to better understand and engage fundraising markets and target audiences across different income streams and donor groups including government, multi-lateral and private. Likewise, this will be achieved by building skills and knowledge at global, regional and country (delegation) levels to support a fundraising mindset, and by working in close collaboration with Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners to create an enabling shared fundraising environment.
Purpose
The Strategy Implementation Plan (SIP) implies a decentralized fundraising reality, in which communications teams (COM); both in headquarters and in delegations, will contribute to achieving fundraising outcomes. Also, support the Resource Mobilization Division (Fundraising) in this endeavor. Additionally, a key enabler of the SIP will be capacity-building of communication teams at global, regional and delegation levels to support a fundraising mindset; ensure relevant colleagues and teams possess the relevant fundraising-related skills, and to bring the necessary talent to the communications pool.
Responsibilities:
- Undertakes an assessment of current capacities and skills on fundraising communications among teams in HQ, Regional Communication Centers, Global Service Centers and delegations in country.
- Also, develops fundraising communication capacity building strategies, plans and content in consultation with REM, COM and Learning and Development (LnD) colleagues in Geneva, RCCs, global service centers and delegations, with a strong focus on e-learning.
- Likewise, coordinates and facilitates fundraising communication capacity building and training activities across the COM global network. Also, provides support to COM teams on specific technical training and capacity building efforts.
- Engages with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement Virtual Fundraising Hub, to learn from existing best practice and contribute relevant ICRC experience.
- Similarly, supports the fundraising communication capacity building activities of selected national societies in collaboration with relevant delegations and REM colleagues, in reactive mode.
- Furthermore, develops and executes training modules (including e-learning) on fundraising communications based on identified needs. Likewise, existing gaps, in collaboration with key Communication and REM colleagues and managers and external industry expertise.
- Similarly, supports the Talent Manager with crafting fundraising communications learning and career development paths within the communication/prevention staff pool.
- Supports the Talent Manager with building fundraising communication generic roles and specific job descriptions that bring the right talent to the communication pool.
- Also, participates in recruitment and selection processes as needed
- Likewise, keeps abreast of the latest fundraising communication job profiles and skills in the humanitarian sector, and ensures they’re integrated into capacity-building and talent strategies and vision.
Relationships
- Works with the Learning and Development Unit to craft online and offline learning programs for the communication teams in the ICRC and the National Societies
- Reports to Fundraising Communications Manager.
- Also, works collaboratively and in a networked mode with colleagues in COM teams in Geneva, Regional Communication Centers; global service centers and delegations in country.
- Likewise, works with the Employee Experience Unit (EEX); both Communication talent manager and trainer, to develop capacities and talent in the com pool.
