Overview

New Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Grants Coordinator for the Office of Research Administration within the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Under the supervision of the Lead Nutritionist for the WIC Program, the Community Liasion / Peer Support Specialist provides breastfeeding information and support to other mothers; helps mothers manage common breastfeeding concerns and overcome common barriers to breastfeeding; does related work.

Duties:

  • As a staff member of the Nutrition Services Component of the WIC Program, interviews pregnant women in the WIC program to obtain needed breastfeeding history.
  • Likewise, disseminates basic breastfeeding information in the WIC clinic, hospital, home or by phone as needed, either individually or as a member of a team.
  • Furthermore, promotes breastfeeding to prenatal and postpartum women as the normal method of infant feeding; explores any barriers the client may have; help to problem solve and find acceptable solutions.
  • Also, provides peer counseling on common questions about breastfeeding and helps mothers manage common breastfeeding concerns.
  • Furthermore, facilitates discussion groups on breastfeeding and counsels women individually.
  • Similarly, selects and provides targeted breastfeeding handouts to participants.
  • Moreover, makes periodic contacts with all breastfeeding women and keeps accurate records.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • At least two (2) years of prior work experience in the health care field required or an Associates Degree.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
  • Also, must learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency or related units.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English or Creole and English an asset.
