The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Charleston invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to start August 2022 in support of our Environmental Biology Concentration.

The Biology Program within the Department of Natural Sciences serves approximately 200 Biology students in 4 concentrations: General Biology, Environmental Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Data Analytics. The Biology Program also provides Anatomy and Physiology courses for Allied Health Majors.

The University of Charleston seeks a highly creative and interactive scholar whose research and teaching interests are focused on organismal biology including but not limited to invertebrates or terrestrial vertebrates. The successful candidate must also be able to teach courses in human anatomy and physiology for allied health majors as part of their normal teaching load. This nine-month position is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2022.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Ph.D. in Biology, Zoology, or related area.
  • Prior college teaching experience preferred.
  • In addition, good communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate level in the areas listed above.
  • Work with the Chair of the Department to expand and grow the Environmental Science/Biology concentration.
  • Also, teach courses in face-to-face and online formats
  • The candidate must be able to communicate effectively as well as work cooperatively with colleagues
  • You should also advise students, serve on university committees, and maintain currency in the field.
  • In addition, the successful candidate should conduct biological research with undergraduates
