Duties

The IE Specialist advises the NC State community and foreign national faculty and staff in the area of employment-based immigration and relevant governmental regulations and procedures. Additionally, the IE Specialist, in collaboration with the IE Manager, prepares and files standard and complex immigration petitions, with a particular focus on nonimmigrant petitions filed with USCIS, and monitors and updates expiration dates and documentation regarding immigration status. Furthermore, the Specialist also assists with the I-9 and E-Verify processes and provides high-level service and assistance to campus on a variety of immigration and I-9/E-Verify issues.

Additional Duties

  • Preparing nonimmigrant petitions by analyzing and integrating information from both the sponsoring department and foreign national employee;
  • Additionally, utilizing multiple online government processes and other systems to prepare and file immigration petitions; monitoring case status both before and after filing, and is responsible for data integrity, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Moreover, monitoring the I-9 program and the University’s electronic I-9 and E-verify vendor system to track and maintain compliance with applicable rules and laws.
  • Developing and maintaining professional working relationships that facilitate the accomplishment of goals and tasks.
  • Also, answering complex questions and resolves normal and complex issues relating to visa, immigration, and I-9/E-Verify issues with limited management intervention.

Qualifications

  • Experience in preparing employment-based immigration cases.
  • Experience filling out USCIS and USDOL immigration forms, as well as the ability to navigate multiple governmental websites for compliance and case completion purposes.
  • Additionally, the ability to use web-based systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely convey verbal, nonverbal, and written information.
  • Also, the understanding of effective working relationships with customers and administrators. Ability to establish rapport and work effectively with diverse populations from various countries and cultures.
