Duties

The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking Penn State students to fill the position of Aqua Fitness Instructor.

Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200,000 of Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.

Also, Aqua Fitness Instructors are responsible for planning, developing, and providing safe fun, and effective water-based group fitness classes based on recognized guidelines. Additionally, courses taught may include Aqua Move, Aqua Power, BOGAFit, and Fitness Swimming. Within all classes, instructors are responsible for the safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are safe. Furthermore, instructors should complete paperwork and communicate regularly with participants, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress and to provide exercise modifications allowing for a variety of fitness levels and abilities to participate.

Requirements

Personally and professionally, Aqua Fitness Instructors should attend and participate in all training and meetings. Also, be receptive to professional and personal development, give and receive feedback. Likewise, balance time commitments, recognize limitations and work to improve and function as a contributing member of the Penn State Campus Recreation team.

Additionally, Aqua Fitness Instructors must obtain and maintain a base level group fitness certification, Aqua Fitness Certification, or other aquatic fitness specialty certification. Also, completion of Penn State Bloodborne Pathogens training and both criminal and FBI background checks (obtained prior to first shift).
