Position Summary
The Chief of Security has the overall responsibility for leading and managing the security and safety of the College. Also, this position reports the Executive Director of Facilities and Security and provides leadership for Security operations for the District while ensuring the best possible positive experience for all students, employees and visitors. This is a full time, 12-month benefit-eligible position.
Duties:
- Students, other employees and the public
- Moreover, manage the security and safety of the College’s students, employees, and visitors to ensure a safe learning environment for all.
- Develop and deliver training for faculty, staff, and students on safety and security related issues based upon an approved training program and protocol.
- Ensures self and staff provide professional and positive customer service experiences to all the enter the college grounds.
- Also, participate in and attends student and employee disciplinary hearings as needed.
- Similarly, support the needs of Human Resources with employee situations upon request.
- Provide leadership, strategic oversight, and management of the Security Department.
- Complete annual performance evaluations on subordinate Security Officers
- Ensure that all time sheet, vacation and sick leave records are correct.
- Provide the opportunity for in-house and off-campus training and coordinates required monthly safety meetings for the security staff.
- Moreover, maintains all training records for security personnel.
- Responsible for maintaining a service orientated and professional security department.
- Mentors security officers, federal work study students, and interns assigned to the security department.
- Furthermore, provide leadership, strategic oversight, and management of the Security Department.
- Complete annual performance evaluations on subordinate Security Officers

Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively in a positive manner with a diverse population of students and employees, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other College and University law enforcement
- Also, ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine if law enforcement involvement is required and/or the proper course of action by college staff.
- Must be able to make important decisions in an unbiased way based on procedures, guidelines, and knowledge without supervisor input.
- Likewise, ability to cope with varying situations, including a crisis, firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others
- Knowledge of criminal justice, law enforcement, higher education, pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
- Furthermore, proficient in Microsoft office suite with emphasis on Word and Outlook as well as capable of quickly learning enterprise software systems relevant to this role.
- Thorough knowledge of emergency management principles.
- Similarly, skill in training, directing and evaluating the work of others.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in security management, criminal justice or closely related field and 3 years of directly related security or law enforcement experience, or any equivalent combination of education
- Also, experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources department.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible experience including at least 5 years in a supervisory and budget management capacity. Possession of a valid Arizona’s Driver’s License.
- Furthermore, finalists to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Finalists must not have been involved in the commission of or have a conviction of a felony.
- Moreover, misdemeanor arrests are discretionary.
